Dry Land Distillers is a craft distillery in downtown Longmont, Colorado that produces unique spirits influenced and inspired by Colorado's landscapes.
Their story
Dry Land Distillers grew out of a deep connection to the people, places, and landscapes of Colorado and the American West. What began as a side project rooted in home brewing and a curiosity about craft distilling in 2017 soon became a mission to create spirits that authentically reflect the land. Founders with long family ties to the region were inspired by the creativity and perseverance of early Colorado and Wyoming craft producers, and they set out to craft spirits that celebrate the unique environment they call home.
From their earliest experiments, Dry Land’s team focused on ingredients that are true to Colorado. They tested native elements like prickly pear cactus, spruce, and heritage wheat, learning how to coax remarkable flavors from ingredients that are often hard to work with. With help from local partners to refine their recipes, those early batches earned enthusiastic reviews from friends and community members, laying the groundwork for something bigger.
Dry Land Distillers officially opened in 2018 in a small space in downtown Longmont and quickly developed a lineup of flagship spirits including heirloom wheat whiskey, a smoked prickly pear cactus spirit, and a gin made entirely from native Colorado botanicals. Since then, they have expanded into a larger historic building that once housed the Valley Farm Dairy, where they continue to make spirits in small batches with custom equipment designed to highlight the character of their raw ingredients.
Despite the challenges of working with unique and finicky ingredients, Dry Land’s spirits are known for being complex, rich, and earthy, honoring both the hard land and the people who tend it. Their commitment to Regenerative and local agriculture is reflected not only in their choice of ingredients but also in how they operate, with innovative systems designed to reduce waste and energy use. Today their spirits and tasting room in the heart of Longmont invite visitors to explore the flavors of the American West and discover the story of the land they celebrate.
